"Infestation Of Evil"

...was the 2nd demo that clearly showed a new and improved band. Thus, however could be seen in two - or maybe more - angles.
The wish for a new, fresh and more "melodic" style of Death Metal got the band a new line-up. Jesper Larsson was replaced by Fred Estby (ex-Dismember), very much to a lack of interest from his side - not due to skills or personality. Honestly, Jesper was a superb drummer, especially when compared with Fred at this time, who had problems keeping up the pace properly. The self-confidence and high ambitions however made him a new sort of self acclaimed "band leader".
As you all can see on the demo cover, the whole thing was recorded as well as mixed in just 2 days. The wish/demand for me to change my grunts into more screaming made me jumping from familiar domains into unknown territory. I had no idea how to control my voice. It actually sounds so weak and shitty, it actually made me consider to just tell every one in the studio to get out and let me do what I know best. But sadly - I was too lame and naive at this time. If this would be today - I would kick some asses for sure. I will never tolerate such stupid behaviour.
The demo resulted in a record-deal with Necrosis (sub-label to Earache run by Jeff Walker) and later on me (the founder of the band) being replaced by Matti Kärki (great guy by the way!) who could deliever what Fred and maybe Mike too, wanted vocal wise.
This was 19 years ago today. During the most intense and interesting phase of extreme metal. When the underground took its first stumbling steps out of the dark, waving the white flag, surrendering to commercialism. Wanting to live on their music.
